Saskatchewan Students

Saskatchewan Students is one of the Saskatchewan Experience streams of the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP), a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) operated by the province of Saskatchewan. This program targets international students who have recently graduated from a Canadian educational institution and have at least 6 months of experience working in Saskatchewan.

Candidates who are successfully nominated through the Saskatchewan Students stream will be invited to submit an official application for Canadian permanent residence.

Program Requirements

Notably, this program has different requirements depending on whether an international student completed their Canadian education in the province of Saskatchewan or in another Canadian province.

Students Who Graduated from a School in Saskatchewan

Candidates in this stream must have graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution located in the province of Saskatchewan with one of the following credentials:

• A certificate,
• A diploma, or
• A degree

In addition to the education requirement, candidates must also have a certain amount of work experience obtained in Saskatchewan. Specifically, candidates must prove they have at least 6 months of full-time, paid work experience obtained in Saskatchewan. This work experience can be gained during the candidate’s studies, or afterwards while on a post-graduation work permit. Candidates for this stream must hold a valid post-graduation work permit, authorizing their work in Canada.

Candidates for this program must have an offer of employment from a Saskatchewan employer. This offer of employment must be for a position which is permanent, full-time, and in the candidate’s field of study. The position must be in one of the following:

• National Occupational Classification (NOC) Skill Level 0, A, or B
• A designated trade occupation: NOC Codes beginning with 72, 73, 82, 92, 632, or 633, or;
• A job offer related to a person’s field of study which requires post-secondary education. To be considered valid, an offer of employment must be supported by a Letter of Offer from the employer, as well as a Job Approval Letter from SINP. In order to obtain a job approval letter, an applicant’s employer must register online using the SINP Online Portal. The employer must submit the position for assessment by SINP. If SINP approves the position, the employer will receive an official Job Approval Letter.

If a candidate’s employment offer is for a position at NOC Skill Level 0, A, or B then there is no language proficiency requirement. If a candidate’s employment offer is for a position at NOC Skill Level C then the candidate must have valid language test scores showing proficiency equivalent to the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 4 or higher

Candidates must have at least one year of post-secondary level education obtained in the province of Saskatchewan.

Candidates must have at least six (6) months of full-time, or an equivalent part-time, work experience in Saskatchewan.

Students Who Graduated from a School in Canada (Outside Saskatchewan)

In order to qualify for this Saskatchewan Students substream, candidates must have a certain amount of work experience obtained in Saskatchewan. Specifically, candidates must prove they have at least 6 consecutive months of full-time, paid work experience obtained in Saskatchewan while holding a post-graduation work permit.

Candidates for this program must have an offer of employment from a Saskatchewan employer. This offer of employment must be for a position which is permanent, full-time, and in the candidate’s field of study. The position must be in one of the following:

• National Occupational Classification (NOC) Skill Level 0, A, or B;
• A designated trade occupation;
• A job offer related to a person’s field of study which requires post-secondary education. • A certificate,
• A diploma, or
• A degree

Candidates must have at least six (6) months of full-time, or an equivalent part-time, work experience in Saskatchewan. Candidates must also currently hold a valid post-graduation work permit.

Application Procedure

The Saskatchewan Students stream accepts applications from eligible candidates at all times. Those eligible for the program may submit applications using the SINP Online Portal. This program does not have an application fee. If the province approves the application, Saskatchewan will notify the applicant they have been selected for provincial nomination. This notification will be sent to the applicant by email. At this point, the applicant officially receives a provincial nomination, making them eligible to submit a federal application for Canadian permanent residence.

After receiving a provincial nomination an applicant has six months to submit their permanent residency application. Applicants in this program must complete and submit a paper-based application for permanent residence and submit it by mail to the appropriate application centre. Paper-based PNP applications for permanent residence are generally processed within 18 months.
